Active cases increased overall, and increased in Fraser and Northern Health while decreasing in Interior and Vancouver Coastal Health (Island Health remained roughly the same).
There were quite a number of deaths over the weekend, with the most occurring in Vancouver Coastal and Interior Health.
One encouraging sign is that hospitalized cases decreased over the weekend.
There’s also a change to the B.C. Vaccine Card program.
As of today (September 27), the B.C. Vaccine Card becomes the sole proof of vaccination that British Columbians can provide when seeking access to businesses and recreational settings, including restaurants and indoor events.
Consequently, British Columbians can no longer present the paper record of immunization given at the time of their vaccination appointment—this was only permitted during a transition period, which is now over.
As of October 24, proof of two doses will be required to access businesses and recreational spaces.
The B.C. Vaccine Card, which has an individualized QR code and must be presented with government-issued photo ID (for those 19 years and above), can be obtained online.
Once again, the B.C. Health Ministry stated that today’s numbers of total and new cases from this past weekend are provisional due to a delayed data refresh.
For now, B.C. is reporting 2,239 new COVID-19 cases:
- September 24 to 25: 876 new cases;
- September 25 to 26: 657 new cases;
- September 26 to 27: 706 new cases.
Currently, there are 6,098 active cases, which is 119 more cases than September 24.
The new and active cases include:
- 857 new cases in Fraser Health, with 2,218 total active cases (189 more cases than September 24);
- 525 new cases in Interior Health, with 1,159 total active cases (109 fewer cases than September 24);
- 358 new cases in Northern Health, with 1,165 total active cases (142 more cases);
- 256 new cases in Vancouver Coastal Health, with 843 total active cases (112 fewer cases);
- 230 new cases in Island Health, with 657 total active cases (three fewer cases);
- 13 new cases of people who reside outside of Canada, with 56 total active cases (12 more cases).
With a decrease of 16 hospitalized cases since September 24, there are currently 303 individuals in hospitals, and 141 of those patients are in intensive care units (eight fewer than September 24).
Over the past three time periods, there were 18 COVID-19-related deaths reported, including:
- six in Vancouver Coastal Health;
- five in Interior Health;
- three in Island Health;
- three in Fraser Health;
- one in Northern Health.
B.C. has recorded an overall total of 1,940 people who have died of COVID-19-related reasons.
With 2,073 recoveries since September 24, an overall total of 176,354 people who tested positive have now recovered.
During the pandemic, B.C. has reported a cumulative total of 184,780 COVID-19 cases.
Since December, B.C. has administered 7,802,535 doses of Pfizer, Moderna, and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines.
As of today, 87.7 percent (4,064,859) of eligible people 12 and older have received their first dose vaccine and 80.5 percent (3,729,606) have received their second dose.
In addition, 88.2 percent (3,815,333) of all eligible adults have received their first dose and 81.3 percent (3,515,026) have received their second dose.
Fraser Health declared an outbreak at Magnolia Gardens in Langley where two cases (one staff member and one resident) have been identified, and also at The Residence in Mission where there are three cases (two staff and one resident).
The B.C. Health Ministry also stated that an outbreak has been declared at Hallmark on the Lake in Abbotsford (Fraser Health).
Northern Health stated on September 26 that it has declared an outbreak at the primary care medical unit at the University Hospital of Northern B.C. (UHNBC) in Prince George, where 10 cases (nine patients and one staff member) have been confirmed.
The B.C. Health Ministry stated that outbreaks have been declared over at Spring Valley Care Centre, David Lloyd Jones Home, and Sun Pointe Village, all in Kelowna (Interior Health).
There’s a total of 22 active outbreaks in healthcare facilities, as well as a previously announced outbreak at Maple Ridge Christian School (Fraser Health).
Sobeys listed the Safeway located at 20871 Fraser Highway in Langley as having one staff member, who last worked on September 20, who tested positive.
