Hilary Duff on why adult ‘Lizzie McGuire’ reboot was axed

Lizzie sent Disney into a tizzy.

That looks to be the message from Hilary Duff regarding the cancellation of the revival of her legendary, early 2000s television display “Lizzie McGuire.”

“I imagine they are genuinely seeking to determine out what form of information they want dwelling on Disney+, and that doesn’t absolutely align with, like, in which I see Lizzie right now,” she reported during an overall look on “The Jess Cagle Show” Thursday, during which she dished about the retracted Disney Channel revival, which was introduced in 2019 to main buzz but was deserted past December.

“I’m very protecting of her and they’re very protecting of her,” she extra.

Duff, 33, beforehand described that she and primary creator Terri Minsky — who departed the organization in early 2020 — desired to acquire the display in a a lot more adult course than Disney was snug with.

In February of 2020, Duff posted on Instagram asking Disney+ to shift the revival of her display to Hulu, in which the tale would not have to reside underneath a PG rating, but they did not take the request.

“There [ended up] a ton of artistic discussions in which possibly they ended up wondering which is not quite right, and we ended up seeking to make it get the job done,” she told Cagle. “And, you know, there is often, like, a lot of discussions, but I don’t imagine it’s likely to be occurring.”

Even so quick-lived the concept was, Duff — who past thirty day period was cast in “How I Satisfied Your Father,” a sequel to the very long-operating sitcom “How I Satisfied Your Mother” — was appreciative of her time reconnecting with her beloved character and former castmates.

“It was lovely to relive that even for three months of my lifetime, since, you know, there was a issue in my lifetime in which I couldn’t stand Lizzie McGuire,” she reported.

“And I was like, ‘I don’t want to hear that name at any time all over again.’ And now that I’m my age, I’m, like, I adore her.”

Hilary also was very grateful for the enhance the character built for her profession.

“She’s, you know, this is in which it all began for me. And she is me and I am her. And I introduced what I could to that, which was very much just who I am inside,” she reported. “And so to faucet into that all over again, even for a moment, was genuinely a wonderful practical experience.”
