Meet the 14-year-old boy makeup artist with a CW docuseries

Welsh teenager Reuben de Maid, the star of “Being Reuben,” isn’t your common makeup artist/ influencer.

“When I commenced [about age nine or ten], I never ever seriously believed just about anything of it,” de Maid, 14, tells The Put up. “Looking back again now, I was a bit naive…When people commenced saying stuff to me or getting negative online, I recognized [getting fascinated in makeup] was different.

“Being Reuben,” airing Fridays at nine p.m. on The CW, follows de Maid as he balances his house lifestyle and normal teenager functions (school and relatives time) with his budding vocation as a makeup influencer. He currently has above 285,000 Instagram followers and above 233,000 subscribers to his YouTube channel, exactly where he posts makeup tutorials.

His social media presence landed him on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in 2017, on a phase with Kim Kardashian. From there, his profile has risen.

“I think [‘Being Reuben’] is really attention-grabbing to enjoy no matter whether you are a child or a dad or mum or grandma — it just demonstrates the relatives dynamic.”

De Maid’s relatives is made up of younger sister Coco, who enjoys manner younger brother Sonny, who would like to be a skilled soccer player when he grows up single mother Vicky, who de Maid describes as “Wonder Woman” and his grandfather, who the relatives calls “Bampa.”

Even with his relatives and friends’ acceptance, however, he’s continue to seasoned some bullying. But many thanks to his mom’s guidance, he’s been ready to navigate that hurdle.

“My mum states, ‘Be by yourself simply because absolutely everyone else is taken,’ and which is what I’ve usually stuck by,” he states. “She’s also informed me that people will have something to say. Just before I came into the public eye a bit much more, she did warn me ‘Not absolutely everyone will concur with you.’

“At the begin, I experienced a slender pores and skin and got offended really a ton,” he states. “But now, having those people negative remarks has manufactured me a much better person.”
