Netflix buys Wonka author Roald Dahl’s catalog

LONDON – Netflix has obtained the functions of Roald Dahl, the late British creator of celebrated children’s guides such as “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”

The video clip streaming giant explained Wednesday that it acquired the Roald Dahl Tale Co., which manages the rights to the author’s characters and stories. No fiscal phrases were being disclosed.

The deal builds on a partnership struck in 2018 to create a slate of animated Tv series, under which “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” is having a reboot by Academy Award successful filmmaker Taika Waititi and Netflix is doing work with Sony on an adaptation of “Matilda the Musical.”

The new offer paves the way for Netflix to deliver all of the author’s again catalogue to screens.

“These jobs opened our eyes to a considerably far more bold undertaking – the generation of a one of a kind universe throughout animated and reside action films and Tv set, publishing, games, immersive activities, are living theatre, customer products and more,” Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos and Luke Kelly, controlling director of the Roald Dahl Tale Co. and Dahl’s grandson, claimed in a joint assertion.

Dahl died in 1990 at the age of 74 but his textbooks, which also involve “The BFG,” “The Twits” and “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” remain well-known with youthful readers, with more than 300 million copies offered worldwide and translations in 63 languages.
