B. Smith, restaurateur and cookbook author, has died

Smith, whose full name was Barbara Elaine Smith, was a multi-faceted and multi-talented character.

In addition to creating restaurants and a dwelling decor collection, around the years, Smith was a manner model, actress, Television host and bestselling cookbook author. In 1976 she turned 1 of the initially African American women to show up on the address of “Mademoiselle” magazine.

Smith was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s at the age of sixty four in 2013.
“It feels like crying,” she told CBS in a 2014 job interview. “Points like that make me extremely sad.”

But she was also determined to increase consciousness of Alzheimer’s, especially for the African American community.

“We misplaced legendary manner model, chef, restaurateur, way of life icon and magazine publisher, B Smith right now,” NBC’s Al Roker mentioned on Twitter.

“70 years outdated, she and her husband, Dan Gasby have been at the forefront of #alzheimers #study for people of color. Enjoy to them and daughter, Dana.”
