The women of Iran’s underground metal scene

Iran might seem an not likely hotbed of heavy metal tunes, in particular as western pop has been officially banned there because the Islamic revolution of 1979. However despite the danger of floggings and long jail conditions, the genre continues to prosper in magic formula underground venues.

Some of the biggest names in the country’s major metal scene are women, irrespective of the actuality that they are forbidden from singing publicly, besides in choirs or woman-only enterprise. A new shorter movie entitled Forbidden to See Us Scream in Tehran highlights the danger they face.
