A MeToo activist explained in a court doc produced Friday that she was “misquoted and misused” by a British tabloid newspaper in an short article that accused Johnny Depp of physically abusing his ex-wife, Amber Read.
The short article quoted Katherine Kendall, an actor and activist who says she was assaulted by jailed film mogul Harvey Weinstein, as stating “it appears that Amber bought harm” and condemning violence.
The short article also claimed there was a backlash by MeToo activists towards writer J.K. Rowling because she was defending her “well known pal” Depp, a star of the film adaptation of her guide Amazing Beasts and The place To Come across Them.
Depp is suing Information Group Newspapers, publisher of The Solar, and the paper’s government editor, Dan Wootton, at the Higher Court in London around the April 2018 short article, which referred to as him a “wife-beater.” He strongly denies abusing Read.
